Millennium Point is a landmark building in the heart of Birmingham. It operates as a landlord to the City’s Science Museum, two universities, a host of STEM businesses and is an event destination in its own right. It is also a charitable trust, supporting the development of STEM subjects in the city.Launch Website /
The client’s existing website had come to the end of its useful life and the brief was to create a site that showcased the building’s offer and the charitable work the organisation was involved in. As well as these objectives it needed to drive enquiries for the hire of event space and offices and provide an access point for the supporting information.
Following a competitive pitch we began the process of meeting the brief by researching the sector and the competition. From this it was clear we needed to create a site that stood out in terms of design, as so many venues had the same generic, almost templated sites. The bespoke design we created would better reflect the unique offer of Millennium Point and meet this insight.
In terms of usability we created a simple navigation that allowed the user to reach the information they required swiftly. As with all of our sites it was mobile responsive, but with the visitor who needed to find simple directions quickly at the centre of what we built.
To showcase the building we used drone shoot to capture the external elevations of the site in order to show the building it all its glory. For the internal aspects we created a full 360 tour of the event and office spaces which allowed potential users the opportunity to see the space they could use. These visuals were further supported by a more traditional photoshoot, giving the client a bank of imagery for the website and future use.
Everything had to be delivered using the existing brand guidelines, which we enhanced for future digital use.
The final site delivered a site that better reflected the scale and scope of Millennium Point’s offer to the public of Birmingham and beyond. It allowed the public to see what the building and the organisation is all about in a very visual way.
In terms of numbers since launch sessions have seen a continual increase and bounce rates decreases. For the first activity that had the website at the heart of it, a scholarship application, year on year number of online applications increased by over 100% further proving the importance of easy to navigate websites.
